Bullying

We have all heard of bullying. We envisage the playground with boys being dominant and physically forceful, whilst girls snigger and talk knowingly behind each other’s back.

But according to professor google, bullying is simply the ‘use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force them to do something.’

So doesn’t that leave us open to bullying on a day to day basis? Do we not get bullied in to working that extra shift that we don’t want to? Don’t we get bullied in to careers that weren’t meant for us by teachers?

There is a fine line between being bullied and being highly influenced or encouraged. And we all need to be aware to allow each other to make their own decisions. Equip with the facts, offer an opinion, but leave it there.

I wrote a post a few years ago about listening to our gut instinct. So often we fail to listen to that inner voice confirming our own rights and wrongs. We do things because others tell us to. We do things because we are told that we are wrong in our own beliefs.

If something doesn’t feel right, it likely isn’t right for you. We shouldn’t let people bully us in to decisions that feels right for them, but not us.

Likewise, we must remember-and myself included-not to bully others in to decisions that we feel are right by our own standards.

I decided to include a little video of a more typical bullying scenario at home. You don’t have to be a teenager to start expressing that dominant gene it seems!
