The great statin debate!

Many are now unsure whether to trust their doctor whose prescribing pen itches when they see you have high levels of cholesterol.

Should you take medication if your cholesterol is high?

A trial called the ‘Jupiter Trial’ involved 17 802 patients in 2009 looked at patients with raised cholesterol. Half the patients took statins and the other half did not.

The trial had to be terminated early as it was significantly putting those without statins at higher risks of mortality.

Statins were shown to reduce mortality by 20%, reduce stroke by 48% and heart attacks by 54%

Yes statins can cause muscular fatigue, but by regular appts with your GP to monitor your blood levels this is now very very uncommon. Newer agents are well tolerated by patients.
